Gradall Forklift Parts - During the period when WWII caused a shortage of workers, the legendary Gradall excavator was born in the 1940s as the brainchild of two brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda. Partners in a Cleveland, Ohio construction company called Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda, the brothers faced a huge predicament when numerous men left the workforce and joined the military, depleting available laborers for the delicate grading and finishing work on highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers opted to make an equipment that will save their company by making the slope grading task more efficient, less manual and easier.
Their initial design model was a device with two beams set on a rotating platform that was attached over a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams back and forth that allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to push or pull dirt. Shortly improving the very first design, the brothers made a triangular boom to add more strength. In addition, they added a tilt cylinder that let the boom rotate 45 degrees in either direction. A cylinder was placed at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the machinery to be equipped with either a blade or a bucket attachment.
Gradall launched in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their machines ever since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics allowed the Gradall excavator to provide high productivity and comparable power to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series ended the original Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These conventional systems efficiently handled grading and finishing work but had a difficult time competing for high productivity tasks.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a remarkable increase in their lifting and digging ability. These models were manufactured together with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system that showed immense improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators make use of an operator in order to choose a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power intended for the task at hand. This makes the operator's whole task easier and also saves fuel at the same time.
Once their XL Series hydraulics became available, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of equipment meant to deal with demolition, pavement removal, excavating and various industrial tasks. Marketability was further improved with their telescoping boom due to its exclusive ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
