Power
There are many kinds of forklifts which are operated by propane gas. Propane-powered forklifts are very simple to refill. The gas is stored in a pressurized tank on the truck's rear. The propane is pushed into the engine, where it is converted into vapor and the vapor combines with air. The throttle of the forklift is utilized to be able to control the vapor flow. A spark plug fires up the mix of vapor and air producing pressure which makes the pistons move. The pistons turn the wheels and run the hydraulic pump.

Since the kinds of forklifts which are operated by propane are clean burning and have low emissions, they are suitable to be utilized within other buildings and warehouses.

Hydraulics
The forklift's hydraulic system is what enables it to lift and move very heavy objects from location to location. A pump, tubes and cylinders make up the hydraulic system. The pump forces dense fluid in the tubing and into the cylinders. The pressure build up pushes a piston, which raises the forks. When the forks are lowered by the operator, the hydraulic fluid flows out of the cylinders and back in the pump.

Steering
Propane forklifts work well where maneuverability is needed. Unlike a car, a forklift uses its rear wheels to pivot, that allows the forklift to turn fast on a tight radius.
